THE SLOW TRAVEL NOTEBOOK · 4 MIN READ
The art of doing a little less.
A short trip does not have to be a long list. Sometimes the best thing you can put on an itinerary is a little space.
Choose one place to call home
It is tempting to turn three days into three different destinations. But each move asks something of you: another bag to pack, another route to figure out, another check-in. Try choosing a single base and letting your days unfold from there. Familiarity arrives surprisingly quickly. By the second morning, you might already have a favourite place for coffee.
Give each day one good idea
A walk you are looking forward to. A neighbourhood that catches your eye. A garden where you can sit for a while. Choose one thing to build your day around and treat everything else as a possibility. This leaves room to change your mind, follow a recommendation, or stop somewhere simply because it looks inviting.
Leave the margins empty
Plan your arrival and departure with care, then resist the urge to fill every hour in between. An open afternoon is not wasted time. It can be the part of the trip where you finally stop thinking about what comes next. Take a book, keep your phone in your pocket, and notice where you are.
Bring something small home
It does not have to fit in a suitcase. A new breakfast habit, a photograph of an ordinary street, or the memory of a particularly good afternoon can be enough. The point of getting away is not always to become someone different. Sometimes it is just to feel a little more like yourself.
